A controversy has erupted in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district after a video allegedly linked to a local Bharatiya Janata Party office-bearer went viral on social media. The BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Jageshwar Yadav over the clip, whose authenticity has not been independently verified. Yadav has denied the allegations and claimed that the video was fabricated using artificial intelligence.
What the viral video allegedly shows
The circulating clip is described in reports as footage from a night time orchestra programme in Jashpur district. The man seen in the video is claimed to sit close to a female dancer, shower currency notes on her and allegedly kiss her. The person in the clip has been identified in reports as Jageshwar Yadav, vice-president of the BJP's Mahadev Dand mandal unit and deputy sarpanch of Ghoghar village. The recording date of the video, the identity of the person shown and the full circumstances around the footage have not been independently established.
BJP seeks explanation within three days
Following the controversy, Mahadev Dand mandal president Prateek Prakash Singh issued a show-cause notice to Yadav, giving him three days to submit his explanation. The party may consider further organisational action after receiving and examining his reply. A show-cause notice does not mean the allegations have been proven; it is a process through which the person concerned is asked to present his side.
Yadav claims the video is AI-generated
Yadav has described the video as fake and claimed that it was generated using artificial intelligence. He has alleged that people acting out of personal enmity created and circulated the clip to damage his reputation. His AI claim has also not been independently verified, and establishing whether the footage is genuine, altered or artificially generated would require technical examination of the original recording. Reports reviewed for this story carried no verified public statement from the dancer, and it is not clear whether any formal complaint has been filed in the matter.
