The death of a young woman inside a Guwahati apartment has taken a new turn, with police now confirming both a note recovered from the room and an arrest. Dolly Baishya was found hanging inside a room at Neha Apartment in Hengrabari on the evening of October 20.
Dispur Police, in an official statement, said the body had begun to decompose by the time it was found, which points to the death having happened two to three days before the discovery.
Note Found at the Spot Blames Nath, Say Police
Police said a suicide note was recovered from the spot. In it, Baishya allegedly accused Biswajit Nath of putting her through physical and mental torture, which the note said pushed her to the step.
Nath, a married man who hails from West Bengal, was arrested on Wednesday and is on five days of police remand. What the note alleges is still a matter of investigation and has not been proven in any court.
Family Had Suspected Something Was Wrong
An officer said the case opened after police were informed about a body lying inside the apartment. A search of the scene and follow-up inquiries led investigators to Nath's alleged link with Baishya, and he was picked up.
Baishya worked with an insurance company and belonged to Sualkuchi in Kamrup district. Her family had, from the start, doubted that the death was straightforward and had voiced fears of foul play. Police say the probe is still on to establish exactly what led to her death.
