Amitabh Bachchan has told his fans that he is stepping away from social media for a few days after doctors advised him strict rest and recovery. The 84-year-old actor shared the update on X on Wednesday and apologised to his followers for not being able to write as regularly as he usually does. He did not say what prompted the medical advice, and the update has left fans concerned about his health.
What Amitabh Bachchan Wrote on X
In his post on X, the actor shared the doctor's advice in Hindi and asked fans for forgiveness. Translated, his message read: apologies, I seek forgiveness, I have been advised to take a few days off to rest and recover, so I am unable to write anything at the moment.
The post matters because writing is a daily habit for Bachchan. He has blogged almost every day for years and posts regularly on X, so a break from writing is unusual for him and was noticed by fans within minutes.
Blog Post a Day Earlier Had the Same Message
The X post followed a similar note on his personal blog a day earlier. Extending his Dussehra wishes to fans, he wrote that he was under very strict instructions to focus on his recovery and avoid communication for the time being.
"First Dussehra greetings to all .. love happiness, fulfilment, prayers. Under very strict rest and recuperation .. so am not allowed to communicate .. do excuse .. my apologies," he wrote, adding, "But do take this as my respected response .. more hopefully later."
What Strict Rest, Recuperation and a Social Media Detox Mean
Strict rest is the term doctors use when the body needs complete recovery time. It means no work, no travel and as little physical or mental strain as possible, including long conversations, so that the body can heal without interruption. Recuperation simply means this recovery period itself, the time the body takes to return to normal strength after an illness, a procedure or exhaustion.
A social media detox, also called a digital detox, is a planned break from phones, social media and screens. For a public figure it also means no posts, no replies and no interviews for a few days. Such breaks are commonly advised to cut stress, improve sleep and keep the mind off public pressure while the body recovers, which is why doctors often pair physical rest with no communication.
Fans Worried as Actor Skips the Reason
Bachchan has not revealed what led to the advice to rest, and no further detail about his health has been shared in his posts. That silence is what has worried fans the most, with well-wishers flooding his posts with get well soon messages and prayers for a speedy recovery.
The actor turned 84 on October 11 and has spoken in the past about working through age-related health issues. For now, his own words are the only official word on the matter: rest first, writing later.
Security Probe Running in the Background
The health update has come at a time when the police are investigating a firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff's car. According to reports on the case, the accused had allegedly surveyed the homes of several prominent personalities before the incident, including the residences of Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan.
Reports say the accused reportedly dropped the idea of targeting the senior actors after assessing the security arrangements around their homes. The suspects also allegedly sent photographs and videos of the surveyed locations to gangster Anil Pandit, who is believed to have links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and sought his guidance. These are allegations under investigation, and the probe is ongoing.
What Is Next for Amitabh Bachchan
On the work front, Bachchan was last seen in the Tamil film Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, alongside Rajinikanth. He is set to return in the sequel to Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD, which stars Prabhas and Kamal Haasan in the lead roles.
On television, he continues to host the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, the quiz show that has been closely associated with him for over two decades. Whether the rest period affects any shooting schedule is not known yet, and fans will be watching his blog for the first post when he returns, as he himself put it, hopefully later.
